The Ekiti State Elders’ Forum of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has advised the newly elected local government chairmen in the state to ensure that people at the grassroots enjoy dividends of democracy.
It would be recalled that the State Independent Electoral Commission declared the APC winner of all the available 16 chairmanship and 177 seats in the December 7 poll.
The Forum in a statement by its Chairman, Chief George Akosile and the secretary, Chief Abiodun Ajayi said the council bosses must see their elections as a call to service and not for selfish interest.
While explaining that local government is the most closer administration to the people, the forum noted that the chairmen and the councillors should complement the developmental efforts of Governor Kayode Fayemi in their respective council areas.

The statement stated that the chairmen must be ready to make sacrifices in the course of discharging their responsibilities for the people and ensure the acceptability of the party at the grassroots.
“The Forum wants to encourage the newly elected chairmen and councillors to replicate the transformation agenda of the Governor Dr John Kayode Fayemi in their various local government councils as to ensure positive and rapid grassroots development as a panacea to bring more members to the APC family in the state.
“Finally, the Forum wishes to advise the elected chairmen and councillors to effectively cooperate and support the state government, party leaders and the entire electorates as to bring about success in future elections,” the statement read.
The group described the poll as most credible, free and fair, commending the state Electoral Commission under the leadership of Justice Jide Aladejana for the successful conduct of the election.
