A statement by the state government said Justice Daramola gave the order after reviewing the cases of the 329 awaiting trial inmates in detention.
The Chief Judge, who had paid a visit to the prison observed that the cases against some of the prison detainees were not strong enough to warrant their prosecution let alone detention.
Upon his review of the cases of the inmates, 18 of the inmates were released unconditionally by Justice Daramola, while the remaining 10 inmates were freed based on the legal advice of the state’s Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) that they had no case to answer.
The statement added that Justice Daramola advised the released inmates to be of good behavior when they return to the larger society, and added that there was no gain in engaging in criminal activities.
He also commended the authorities of the Ado Ekiti Prisons for the clean environment and expressed hope that the issue of congestion in the prison would be solved when the a new block of cells under construction in the prison is completed.
The Chief Judge also lauded stakeholders in the judicial sector for their contributions to the dispensation of justice in the state.
In his remarks, the Deputy Comptroller of Prisons in the state, Mr Tope Aguda, urged the released inmates to be good ambassadors of their various families and avoid acts that could make them return to prison.
