DIRECTOR-GENERAL of the Kayode Fayemi Campaign Orgnaisation in the 2014 governorship election in Ekiti State, Mr Bimbo Daramola, has said that the 2014 governorship election in which his principal, Dr Kayode Fayemi was defeated is indeed an unfinished business as contended by Dr Fayemi.
Daramola, who represented Oye/Ikole Federal Constituency in the last National Assembly, however, charged that his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), not to dwell on the past election but to unite in order to present a common front in the next governorship election in the state.
Daramola, who addressed newsmen on the occasion of his distribution of 1,000 Universal Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to candidates from the 16 local government areas of the state, held that the heavy defeat suffered by his party in the election would remain an unfinished business for a long time in the history of the Ekiti State.
Daramola said: “Fayemi’s defeat will be unfinished business for long; but APC must also take cognizance of the reality in 2018. We must come out boldly and address the issue of why Ekiti voted against us. I believe we have to be more serious than this to be able to win this election.”
Daramola, however advised the party not to be carried away by the confusion brought about by the Fayemi’s colossal loss, saying the party must devise strategies and engage in mobilization drives to be able to defeat Governor Fayose in the coming election.
He said while he agreed that the matter of their loss of the 2014 election would continue to generate debate and scrutiny, he said the APC in the state must realise that 2018 election is just about one year, and that they must begin mobilisation.
Speaking on the nearly two years of the APC federal administration in the country and the misgiving among Nigerians, the governorship aspirant dismissed the impression that the APC-led federal government had not done well.
He said there was “nothing to suggest that the APC is not loved”, saying “things are not where we want them to be but we also do not want to give the people poisoned water”.
He added: “APC has not done badly and I believe we can win both the 2018 governorship election in Ekiti and the 2019 presidential race even if for President Buhari’s war against corruption. The PDP government destroyed this country for 16 years and that accounted for why the economy was bad.
“Just take a look at the discoveries by EFCC in recent time. About $238 million was discovered at a location. Also the Osborne discovery in Ikoyi, Lagos, which was N449 million. Another $2.9 million in Kaduna. All These will be issues to tell Nigerians.
“Though, it is very sad that Nigerians are not taking patrimony of these monies, they are the schools, roads and other infrastructures people are expecting but some people decided to corner them. So, APC will win if for these discoveries alone.”
