Eid-al-Fitri: NSCDC boss orders massive deployment of personnel

The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has ordered the massive deployment of personnel across all zones, states, and formations to ensure a hitch-free Sallah celebration nationwide.

In a directive issued on Saturday through the NSCDC Public Relations Officer, Mr Babawale Afolabi, in Abuja, Audi emphasised the need for heightened surveillance, noting that criminals often exploit festive periods to carry out nefarious activities.

He urged officers to remain vigilant and collaborate effectively with other security agencies to maintain peace and order.

“We must justify the confidence reposed in us by the government and the public by discharging our statutory responsibilities with professionalism and a sense of loyalty to the nation,” the NSCDC boss stated.

Addressing recent incidents of explosions and attacks on pipeline installations, Audi warned that acts of vandalism and destruction of critical national assets and infrastructure have severe consequences on the nation’s economy and would not be tolerated.

He commended the recent joint operation involving the Armed Forces, DSS, Police, and NSCDC in Rivers State, which successfully thwarted an attempted attack on oil installations in Allu-Rumuekpe, Emuoha Local Government Area. He reiterated that effective collaboration among security agencies remains key to curbing crime and ensuring national security.

The Commandant General assured Nigerians of the Corps’ preparedness to deliver on its mandate and called on the public to support security efforts by providing credible information and actionable intelligence to prevent attacks on critical infrastructure and maintain law and order.

In line with the directive, all NSCDC formations across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have been placed on high alert. Audi stated that the deployment would cut across all departments and tactical units to prevent any security threats before, during, and after the Sallah celebrations.

He reaffirmed that the NSCDC, in synergy with other security agencies, would intensify surveillance to safeguard oil pipelines, power and telecommunication installations, rail lines, mining sites, and other critical infrastructure.

He further directed all state commandants in coastal regions to strictly adhere to the Corps’ Standard Operating Procedures and effectively deploy available resources to maintain security throughout the Sallah celebrations.

Audi assured the public that the NSCDC, in collaboration with other security agencies, would ensure a peaceful and incident-free Eid-al-Fitr celebration.
