Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has called on federal and state government to establish a safe house for Gender-Based Violence (GBV) survivors.
Ebonyi State chairperson of NAWOJ, Ms Nkechinyere Oginyi, gave the charge during the 2021 end of year congress.
Oginyi then commended the State Government for programmes and policies that promote the well-being and safety of women and children across the LGAs.
Oginyi further called on the government to set up a school task force team to monitor and supervise bullying and other harmful practices in schools.
“Government should make a stand-alone law on bullying in the state, while the Federal Ministry of Education should have an anti-bullying policy copy.”
The NAWOJ chairperson also advised mothers to be more security conscious especially this yuletide season.
According to her, malicious persons are out to use children for their evil purposes.
She, however, charged members of NAWOJ to in the spirit of Yuletide to have a safe celebration, while encouraging them to continue to be law-abiding.
“NAWOJ commends its members for their financial, moral, and physical support to the association so far, and encourages them not to relent.
“NAWOJ commends the Ebonyi State Government under the leadership of His Excellency David Nweze Umahi, for launching the Gender-Based Violence (GBV) task force in the state.
“NAWOJ also lauds the state government for rising to the security challenges in the state, which has led to various breakthroughs in that sector.”
