The people of the Izzi clan in Ebonyi State, under the umbrella of the Izzi Development Union (IDU), have called on their kinsman, Governor Francis Nwifuru, to site more projects in the clan for development.
The National President of the Union, Chief Nwankwegu Godwin Mbam, stated this in Abakaliki, the state capital, during the union’s 50th anniversary celebration.
According to Mbam, while commending Governor Nwifuru for the progress and development of Izzi, he noted that Izzi people have, over the years, been marginalised beyond imagination and therefore deserve more projects in their clan to attract development.
He also lauded the governor for the reform agenda in health and civil service, security, agriculture, infrastructure, and education.
According to him, they are all eloquent testimony of his administration’s readiness to position the state at enviable heights.
“Despite all you have been doing for the progress and development of Izzi, as Oliver Twist, we can’t deny the fact that we need more, especially as our project of today demands.
We crave your indulgence to highlight some of our challenges for your assistance, and they include the completion of the IDU Ultra-Modern Secretariat, a utility vehicle for the day-to-day running of the affairs of the development union, and the expansion of our Hall parking space lots by seeing if it will be possible for our close neighbour to relocate to another site.”
“Today, Izzi persons can beat their chests and raise their shoulders high anywhere that they are true sons of the Izzi clan, and with the coming on board of the executive governor of Ebonyi State, who is a true son of the Izzi nation, no Izzi man can be ashamed to speak their language or participate in any business activities and positions, no matter where he finds himself.
“We are encouraged by your Excellency’s steady fastness in ensuring the well-being and progress of Ebonyians through your administration manifesto anchored on people’s Charter of Needs, open governance, performance management, and prioritising people’s welfare,” he stated.
The union, however, crowns the wife of the Governor Chief, Mrs. Mary-Maudaline Nwifuru, with the Chieftaincy title “Iphoro Naru-Egu 1 of the Izzi Nnodo Clan” in recognition of their leadership prowess and services to the humanities in the state and beyond.
Others honoured with the Chieftaincy title by the traditional leaders of Izzi include Senator Obinna Ogba, Chief Chikaodiri Ojemba, Architect Christian Asaga, and others.
In their separate remarks, the member representing Ebonyi/Ohaukwu federal constituency, Hon. Eze Nwachukwu, and Hon. Commissioner for Finance, Dr Leonard Chukwuma Uguru, said the chieftaincy title given to them is well deserved.
He commended the leaders of the IDU for uniting the Izzi clan.
