The Progressives Alliance (PA) has alleged that the invasion of the Lagos State House of Assembly by the operatives of the Department of State Security Services (DSS) on Monday was stage-managed by the leadership of the House.
According to the secretary of the group, Comrade Segun Banjo, the invasion was orchestrated to give the erstwhile Speaker, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa and President Bola Tinubu who is rumoured to have the former Speaker’s back on the issue, a bad name.
He held that both the president and the former speaker were being dragged into the court of public opinion rather than waiting for the Honourable Court to determine the suit before it.
He stated that the former number one lawmaker in the state had approached the court of law to seek his reinstatement on grounds that the process was fraught with illegality.
In a suit filed at the Lagos High Court, the former speaker sought an order granting an accelerated hearing of the suit.
He also prayed the Court to fix a date for the expeditious hearing of the originating summons.
Reacting to the Monday episode, Banjo said, “The House Committee Chairman on Information, Hon. Stephen Ogundipe didn’t controvert the DSS. The only thing he said to the contrary was the operatives went beyond their brief.
“We have it on good authority that Monday’s event was prearranged by the Meranda-led leadership of the House to tar President Bola Tinubu and Hon Mudashiru Obasa with the brush of an anti-democrat because it is the same House that invited the Department of State Security Services that also mobilised the civil servants to attack the operatives.
“So, what is the role played by President Tinubu and Hon. Obasa in the matter that the so-called invasion was attributed to them? They are being dragged in the court of public opinion? The same Obasa who has been keeping to common sense including taking the case before the court,”
Banjo alleged that a cache of firearms in the office of the Chief Security Officer of the Assembly was carted away by the DSS officials on Monday, claiming those weapons had been at the services of recruited political thugs that had been keeping vigil at the Assembly complex.
The same thing played out on Monday as officials of the DSS were harassed, molested, and violated while members of the Assembly staff were forced to stage protests regularly.
“It pleases us to know that cache of firearms at the disposal of thugs that had been sleeping in the Assembly complex since January 13 were discovered, seized by the DSS officials on Monday,” he claimed.
