The Ogun State sector commander of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ahmed Umar, has fingered drivers with fake drivers for causing accidents on major roads and highways.
Umar made this disclosure on Wednesday shortly after an inspection tour of the state computerized vehicles inspection service (OGCVIS) in Abeokuta, the state capital.
The Sector commander noted that the rate of crashes will reduce drastically on the roads if due process is followed in obtaining the driver’s license and roadworthiness certificate across the country.
He said “if vehicle undergoes due inspection for the roadworthiness, it shall go a long way in reducing the frequency of the road crashes.
“The problem there is if the drivers decide to cut corners with the collaboration of the officials here, just to issue the certificate without going through the inspection, that is why the problem arises.
The Sector commander, however, expressed readiness to partner with the OGSCVIS in ensuring that the people comply with presenting roadworthiness certificate.
He said: “I am in fact highly impressed with what I have seen; the facility I have seen here and the professionalism of the staff, the demonstration of the entire staff. The neatness of the environment shows real professionalism. I am highly impressed.”
The state coordinator of OGSCVIS, Olawale Olokode expressed readiness to partner with the FRSC in reducing road crashes, particularly in the state.
