The leadership of the Independent Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), South-West Zone, on Monday, directed its members not to comply with the directive of its national body over the planned nationwide strike.
IPMAN South-West Zonal Chairman, Alhaji Dele Lamidi, in a statement made available to Tribune Online, in Abeokuta, urged members to ensure adequate supply of petroleum products across the South-West region.
The chairman, who was apparently reacting to an interview granted by the national Public Relations Officer of IPMAN, Yakubu Ibrahim, that members and officials at the states, zonal and depot levels “have met and resolved to shut down fuel filling stations” all over the country” following what he described as the police’s illegality on the association’s matter.
Lamidi said the directive of the national body would undermine economic activities if obeyed.
He, therefore, directed its members to ensure hitch-free business activities at all the depots in the region.
Lamidi said the leadership of IPMAN in the region was not unaware of the untold hardship Nigerians are battling with, insisting that going on nationwide strike would further compound their woes.
The IPMAN boss urged the national body to employ dialogue and other means as the solution to the impasse.
“All depots and petrol stations are directed to go about their normal business and ensure free flow and a hitch-free of supply and distribution of Petroleum products across every nooks and cranny of South-West.”
“While we support Federal Government and NNPC/ PPMC to achieve their objectives of products supplies, we will continue to do our businesses legitimately without fear or favour. We are passionate about Nigerian people’s plight and we will not add to the suffering of the people,” Lamidi added.
