…promises inclusive services, competitive returns
DIGIVANT Microfinance Bank (MFB) has kicked off a grassroots financial inclusion campaign at the popular Tejuosho Market in Yaba, Lagos, unveiling a range of deposit, loan, and agency banking products designed to serve small business owners, traders, and everyday Nigerians.
The initiative, according to the bank, is aimed at bringing financial services closer to underserved communities while supporting small businesses to thrive.
Speaking at the financial inclusion drive, Head of Business Development, Mr. Aladekoye Samuel, explained that Digivant’s mission goes beyond traditional banking.
“We are not just here to collect deposits. We are here to support businesses and individuals in ways that directly improve their livelihoods,” he said. “Our products are designed to be inclusive, accessible, and rewarding. Whether you are a small trader or a large business owner, Digivant is ready to support you.”
Highlighting the bank’s deposit offerings, Samuel disclosed that customers can enjoy highly competitive interest rates.
“We have savings products where customers can deposit at their own pace and withdraw whenever they like. Unlike many institutions, we give them very high returns for keeping their money with us,” he said.
According to him, the target savings product attracts between 17 and 21 percent interest, while investment deposits earn rates determined by volume and duration.
On access to credit, Samuel emphasized that Digivant supports entrepreneurs without the traditional hurdles of heavy collateral.
“For us, character is collateral. Once a prospective customer provides valid identification, BVN, utility details, and passes a credit check, we are ready to extend support. We believe that by supporting small businesses, we are ultimately supporting job creation and the growth of Nigeria’s economy,” he said.
Head of Corporate Communications, Ms. Petra Onyegbule, noted that Digivant differentiates itself by banking with a “human face.”
“When customers face challenges, we don’t dehumanise them. Instead of insisting on rigid repayment schedules that could push them into default, we restructure loans so that both the bank and the customer win. This approach keeps our customers loyal and makes them our ambassadors,” she explained.
She added that the financial inclusion drive was deliberately taken to the market because of the bank’s philosophy of “meeting customers where they are.”
“We know people are busy earning their daily bread. That is why we come to their physical location, at their own timing, with no minimum account opening balance. Whether you are tech-savvy or still using a basic phone, Digivant has a service for you,” she said.
Onyegbule stressed that Digivant is not only about financial transactions but also about improving the well-being of its customers.
At a recent customer forum, the bank offered free health checks, including blood pressure and blood sugar tests, and also launched a medical insurance package to help traders access healthcare without the burden of immediate out-of-pocket expenses.
“We know many people ignore minor health issues because of lack of cash, and these often become bigger problems. So we pay the insurance premium upfront, and customers repay in small, convenient installments. A healthy customer is a more productive customer, and together, we grow,” she said.
During the outreach at Tejuosho Market, Digivant’s marketing team opened accounts for traders, educated them on the bank’s product offerings, and distributed branded souvenirs to new customers. The initiative attracted large crowds, with many traders signing up on the spot.
Digivant MFB says it intends to replicate similar grassroots financial inclusion drives across other markets in Lagos and beyond, reinforcing its commitment to “people, humanity, and inclusive growth.”
