DE Jewels Apartment, Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, stands shoulders taller among others in the country in terms of comfort at its maximum.
The beautiful and cozy environment, coupled with the friendly reception by security men at their duty post and the receptionists sereneded members of the three-man Tribune media team (Wale Ojo-Lanre, Laolu Harolds and this writer) when we arrived at the hotel.
The media team was posted to Ekiti State to monitor the presidential and National Assembly elections earlier scheduled to hold on February 16, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) timetable, which was later postponed by one week due to logistics and other reasons.
We had travelled the day before the election so as not to miss out on activities on election day.
We got to Ado Ekiti around 8:00p.m. and we were welcomed to the state capital with a power outage. But when we got to the Ado Ekiti long bridge, we were all dazzled by the beauty of the well illuminated bridge.
And immediately we entered No 2, Olatunji Street, opposite the Nigeria Immigration Service office, where De Jewels is located, we began to feel the cool breeze which was devoid of pollution and we drove into the hotel on a well-tarred road.
The team was cheerfully welcomed by the entire personnel on duty, who directed us to a very large parking lot where we parked our car. When we got to the reception, the staff also lived up to expectations. They were very fantastic; corporate, articulate and accommodating. The reception room also was; neat, spacious and structured.
The apartments in the hotel were captivating sight to behold. The passage is spacious while the rooms are well laid out for privacy and convenience. What a serene and comfortable apartment for business executives! It is a home away from home!
We were checked into the sweet-smelling rooms each having bed properly positioned and covered with cream-like colour bedspread, with soft blanket and four pillows. What a comfort for couples! But none of us came with his spouse. The Plasma television hung on the wall and the air conditioner also enhanced the comfort of the room.
The restroom, which had a toilet and bathroom attached to it, could only be compared to those used in the realm of angelic. They are neat and odourless. Really, it is an ideal environment for captains of industry.
I retired to bed around 9:30p.m. and in less than 30 minutes, I slept off. But a call woke me up around 11:30p.m. to know if the elections had been truly postponed. Another call around 11:50p.m. on the same issue. And so I put a call through to a senior colleague who said he had just spoken to a former governor who said the probability of the election being postponed was high and that INEC and other stakeholders were still in a meeting. We later the postponement of the election.
The purpose of the trip was thus punctured. I slept off, only to wake up around 5:00a.m. to put off the air conditioner. I got up finally around 7:30a.m. My senior colleague in another room, who I thought was still sleeping, was already at the swimming pool to refresh himself.
The meal, which comprised two sizeable cake-like bread, were enriched with ingredients, plus a plate of fried egg and a cup of tea. While we were having the meal, my senior colleague requested for barbecued fish which was prepared in less than 20 minutes. It took the three of us about 30 minutes to do justice to it while we discussed the implications of the election postponement. I was offered pounded yam which I declined because my stomach had already been filled up. We took time to enjoy ourselves while we explored other facilities in the hotel before we set out for the journey back to Ibadan around 11:55a.m.
