Two individuals suspected to be cultists were allegedly shot and killed on Friday during a clash between rival cult groups in Awka, the capital of Anambra State.
According to an eyewitness named Mr Ike Odi, the incident occurred around 11 am at Ukwuoji bus stop along Zik’s Avenue in Awka.
Odi stated that approximately five hoodlums arrived at the scene in a car with tinted windows.
They proceeded to shoot their victims and then fired indiscriminately into the air before making their escape.
Odi further explained that upon hearing the gunshots, everyone present scattered in search of safety, providing the cultists with an opportunity to flee.
The Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, could not confirm the reported killings but acknowledged that there was a shooting in the area.
He stated, “There is no information like that before me. Police operatives have intensified patrols within Awka following the sound of gunshots at Ukwuoji bus stop in Awka.
Information gathered at the scene from eyewitnesses suggests that it is cult-related.”
