Kpaduma community, Asokoro extension in the FCT on Saturday embarked on the construction of drainage and road repairs as rainy season sets in.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that members of the community came out en mass to embark on the exercise in preparation for the expected heavy rainfall.

Mr Isaac Danjuma, a resident in the area told NAN that the efforts would prevent erosion and other road challenges peculiar to the area, especially during rainy season.

“This effort will prevent or reduce the effects of erosion that has eaten away most parts of the road,’’ he added.

Danjuma, therefore, appealed to the government to enforce laws that would ensure all property owners construct drainage to prevent flooding and other challenges.

Mr Femi Adeyemi, another resident in the area said that the repair and construction would make the roads motorable for car owners and motorcyclists.

“We always have road challenges, especially during rainy season, so with this work, at least we will be able to move around easily and not be customers to mechanics for a while.’’

Mrs Esther Shamaki, a civil servant said that the road repairs and drainage construction would enable workers arrive early to work.

“At least we will be able to arrive early to work without using rainfall and bad roads as excuses for coming late to work,’’ she said.

On her own part, Mrs Afiniki Samuel, a nurse said the efforts would reduce cases of minor accidents in the area caused by bad roads.

Samuel appealed to the government to construct roads as well as provide other basic facilities for the people in the area.
