The PCC also called on Muslim parents to send their children to school for basic education and for the young people’s professional attainment.
The PCC gave the advice last week at a Hijrah 1440 awareness programme organised by the National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations (NACOMYO), Oyo State chapter, for the Muslim community in the state.
According to the organisation, western education is not against Islamic principles as it equips persons with the necessary skills to be self-sufficient and relevant in nation building.
Addressing participants at the programme, a PCC member, Alhaja Aminat Atere of the Oyo State Ministry of Education stated that members of the Muslim community in the country must disabuse their minds as regards the importance and value of western education, stressing that every Muslim child must be educated.
She expressed dismay that Nigeria is one the countries with highest level of illiteracy with the Muslim community having the highest illiterate population in the country.
Another member of the organization, Mallam Raji Fatai Adebamiji, described education as one of the keys to social development and virtually every aspect of good living and “it remains a means of improving quality of life.”
While he appealed to all the Muslim youths in the country to embrace a career for which they have aptitude and talent, he said only western education could make it possible.
“Your Islamic knowledge draws you closer to Allah and sustains you in your chosen profession. Western education is a must to have,” he emphasised.
