Chair PCNI assures Dapchi parents on the safe return of GGSTC students

The Chair of the Presidential Committee on the North East Initiative PCNI General Theophilus Danjuma rtd has commiserated with the Governor of Yobe State, Dr Ibrahim Geidam and his people over the unfortunate abduction of students of the government girls science technical college GGSTC Dapchi.

General Danjuma who was represented during the visit by the Vice Chairman of PCNI, Tijjani Tumsah, equally sympathised with the district head of Dapchi Alhaji Kachalla Yuroma over the sad incident that occurred in his domain.

While in Dapchi he said that “the regrettable attacks came when Operation Lafiya Dole was reversing the negative tide of violent insurgent attacks in the North East and early recovery was beginning to take off in most communities of the region”

He assured the District head and the representative of the parents Bashir Manzo that the PCNI will work closely with all relevant stakeholders to ensure the safe return of the girls.

Tumsah further undertook a tour of the Government Girls Science and Technical College, Dapchi for a firsthand assessment of the security breach.

He assured the delegation of the parents of the forum of abducted girls that the government will deploy all its military and civil assets to ensure the safe return of the students

Chair of the forum Bashir Manzo assured that they will regularly update the PCNI on the number of students still unaccounted for as parents are still coming from the hinterland to face the reality of their loved ones disappearing just like that.

On the safe school initiative, Alhaji Tumsah stated that SSI, class which currently has 2000 students attending 43 schools across the country will be expanded to cater for more vulnerable students from the North East of Nigeria.

The SSI class will also undergo a review by the relevant stakeholders to formulate strategies on how to prevent such attacks and ensure that the education of students continues under adequate protection in line with safety protocols of international standard.

Under the Safe School Initiative, there’s a component for school rehabilitation, an assessment of schools in the North East has already been done, GGSTC Dapchi will be added to schools that will undergo rehabilitation.
