Can I have sex with my pregnant wife!

Dear Yemisi,

Is it advisable to continue having sex with a woman immediately one discovers that the woman is pregnant?

Is there a particular period to avoid having sex with the woman for the risk the act of sexual intercourse could have on the pregnancy?

Dear Kevin,

Is this the first pregnancy of your woman/wife? If this is her first one, I will advise you take your time before you continue with having sexual intercourse with her.

If she has been confirmed to be pregnant, you will have to watch her for the first three months that is referred to as the first trimester in the medical parlance. She is not likely to be interested with your advances as the first three months are really traumatic especially for the first timer.

If she is confirmed to be carrying a low-risk pregnancy, then you are free to enjoy your woman sexually. But you don’t have to force this down her throat at any time, please.

But if there are instances of threatened abortion, you will be saving yourself a lot of stress and unnecessary spending on medicals by abstaining from sex at least for as long as she cannot cope.

There are some circumstances, though, in which you may need to modify your activity or abstain from sex altogether for part or all of her pregnancy. Your wife’s midwife or doctor should let her know whether she has or developed any complications that make sex a no-go area.

The good news according to gynecologists spoken to is that sex during pregnancy is extremely safe for most women with uncomplicated, low-risk pregnancies

Though medically, the second trimester is said to be ideal for having sex as the act does not in any way portend danger to the developing foetus while the increasing tummy does not any way disturb your fun.
