Recovering from the previous session’s loss, the benchmark index at the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) closed positively at 66,570.19 points on Thursday, indicating a 0.13 per cent gain.
Bullish sentiments resurfaced in the domestic stock market as investors’ interest in Dangote Sugar triggered a 0.1 per cent increase with the bellwether’s stock appreciating in price by 1.8 per cent.
Also, gains in Access Holdings, Lafarge Africa and United Bank for Africa contributed to the bullish outing having appreciated in share value by 0.31 per cent, 0.51 per cent and 0.30 per cent, respectively.
Consequently, the Month-to-Date and Year-to-Date gains advanced to +0.3 per cent and +29.9 per cent per cent, respectively.
Equities investors at the NGX therefore earned N140.77 billion as the market capitalization settled higher at N36.53 trillion.
As measured by market breadth, market sentiment was positive as 24 tickers gained relative to 19 losers. Wema Bank and ThomasWay topped the gainers’ list after their respective share prices appreciated by 9.9 per cent and 9.7 per cent, while Champion Breweries and Chellaram recorded the most significant losses of the day having dipped in share value by 9.9 per cent and 9.8 per cent, respectively.
Sectoral performance was generally bullish, with gains in the Banking, Consumer Goods, and Industrial Goods sectors, posting increases of 0.44 per cent, 0.30 per cent and 0.03 per cent, respectively.
However, the Insurance sector declined by 0.06 per cent, and the Oil & Gas index remained unchanged.
Meanwhile, activities at the local bourse on Thursday were impressive as an analysis of market activities showed trade turnover settled higher relative to the previous session, with the value of transactions up by 2.95 per cent.
A total of 1.01 billion shares valued at N4.73 billion were exchanged in 6,959 deals.
Neimeth Pharmaceutical led the volume and value charts with 657.09 million units traded in deals worth N985.65 million.
