Buhari, APC irritating Nigerians with false performance claims ― PDP

Ologbondiyan

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has advised President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) to “respect the office of the president and stop irritating Nigerians with false performance claims.”

According to the main opposition party in a statement by its national spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan, Tuesday, the resort by the administration to media hyping of non-existent projects and programs in the face of manifest stagnation and failure in all sectors of national life was embarrassing.

It argued: “Is it not strange that with the near total collapse of infrastructure, deteriorated economy, skyrocketing inflation, high cost of food, inexcusable high mortality rate, an abysmally low purchasing power, high spate of insecurity and a lack of direction in the country, President Buhari is busy parading non-existent projects as achievements?

“We challenge President Buhari to break the circle of his administration’s fairy-tale by leaving the comfort of Aso Rock and commence an infrastructural tour of the nation, by road, and see whether he can locate the projects he had been made to the hype on paper as achievements.

“After the trip, President Buhari would know why he and his administration have become a butt of joke among Nigerians and why his administration has gone down in history as the worst in our nation.

“Of course, if there were such projects as claimed by the Buhari Presidency, Nigerians would not need any media hype to see them. The resort to media hysteria and defacing of our streets with banners of fictitious projects is because they do not exist on the ground.”

The PDP urged President Buhari not to allow his handlers “to continue to ridicule him but use the opportunity of such ceremonies to apologize to Nigerians for his failures as well as the agony he has plunged them into in the last six years.”

In a separate statement, the party described the passage by the APC-led Senate of direct primary for the nomination of candidates for election, in all political parties, as a retrogressive provision that seeks to wipe off all the gains achieved in our electoral practice since 1999.

The party said the decision by the Senate was a humongous blow to the development of democratic norms and a plot to introduce anarchy during internal party elections as currently obtainable in the APC.

The PDP maintained that the provision was aimed at increasing the costs of nomination procedures thereby surrendering the processes to money bags against the wishes and aspiration of Nigerians.

It added: “Our party makes bold to state that with the exception of the APC, which intends to deploy looted funds in a future election, hardly will there be any political party that will be able to raise the cost of conducting internal elections under a direct primary process.

“This is why the decision of the Senate has elicited widespread rejection from Nigerians across the board.”

The PDP, therefore, urged the Senate to immediately deploy its appropriate legislative instruments to reverse itself on the direct primary as “it is not operable and does not reflect the wishes and aspiration of the majority of Nigerians.”

The Dangers In Mixing Toilet Cleaner With Bleach

Few weeks ago, Eniola Oyemolade, a journalist, decided to get creative while cleaning, by mixing a toilet cleaner and a bleach together. She did this with the thought that if one product works, mixing it with another would make it even better.

Unknowing to her, Mixing bleach with toilet cleaner creates a poisonous gas that can cause adverse health reactions, including death.

“After the mixture, I started feeling a burning sensation in my throat and I had to leave the room because the odour was really bad too,” she said.
