The Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) has approved the appointment of five new Directors and one General Manager for the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).
The appointees are to replace those that were fired on Friday, February 24, 2017 by the Federal Government through the Ministry of Aviation.
A statement by the General Manager, public Affairs at the NCAA, Mr Sam Adurogboye listed the names of those appointed and their designations to include: Group Captain Edem Oyo-Ita as the Director of Air Transport Regulations, (DATR), Ahmed Abbas Sanusi as Director, Human Resources and Administration, (DHR & ADMIN).
Also appointed were Bilikisu Adamu Sani as Director of Finance and Accounts, (DFA) and Odunowo Tayyib Adetunji as Director of Aerodrome and Airspace Standards (DAAS).
Engineer Ita Awak has also been appointed as the Director of Airworthiness Standards, (DAWS) just as Lawrence Mathew Kwajok was appointed as the General Manager, Air Navigational Standards,(ANS).
While all the appointments are with immediate effect, tongues have started wagging as to why all the five directors appointed were brought from outside against the civil service regulations regarding appointment.
Key players have condemned the appointment on the premise that they believe that the decision to bypass qualified personnel within the system to appoint outsiders will only kill the morale of the workers.
The decision is said to be unacceptable to the workers and the aviation unions.
