The candidate of the Action Alliance (AA) in the last Kogi governorship election, Otunba Olayinka Braimoh, has called for collective sacrifice to address the hydra-headed issue of societal poverty that has bedeviled Okunland for decades.
Braimoh made the call at the formal launching of the Okun Youth Alliance (OYA) Movement with the theme: “Raising a New Generation of Okun Leaders: Through Sensitization, Empowerment, and Political Action” in Kabba.
As a guest speaker at the event, Braimoh commended the convener of the OYA Movement, Comrade Oladele John-Nihi, for his initiative toward unity, progress, and development in Okunland.
He stressed the need for the Okun nation to chart a new course for societal prosperity, which, according to him, requires great sacrifice.

“We need to identify where we are coming from, where we are presently, and define where we want to be.
“We must look at the parameters with which we define our interests and prioritize the interest of the majority over individual interests.
“We must unite and collectively make sacrifices for scalable and sustainable prosperity in Okunland.
“We must be ready to take responsibility for the betterment of Okunland,” Braimoh said.
In his welcome address, the convener of the OYA Movement, Comrade Oladele John-Nihi, described the moment as a significant milestone in the journey toward unity, progress, and development in Okunland.
According to him, the OYA Movement is anchored on three pillars: Sensitization & Reorientation, Empowerment & Engagement, and Politics.
“We believe that by sensitizing and reorienting our youths, we can help them develop a sense of purpose and direction.
“By empowering and engaging them, we can unlock their potential and help them become active participants in the development of our community.
“We will not be discouraged. We will continue to work together, support each other, and strive for excellence,” John-Nihi said.
The event was well attended by dignitaries, royal fathers, technocrats, politicians, government officials, and sons and daughters of Okunland.
