PARENTS and guardians of children that benefitted from free medical screening organised by Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his Deputy, Obafemi Hamzat in Lagos, said the initiative has alleviated their children’s medical challenges.
They spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) separately at the Ikotun-Igando Primary Healthcare Centre, Lagos, one of the designated seven centres for the medical screening.
NAN reports that the screening was organised by the Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu and Kadiri Olusola Hamzat (BOSKOH), in collaboration with an NGO, Healthcare Mission International (HMI), for children from ages zero to 12.
The free health screening, which began on Aug. 2, lasted till Aug. 10 in seven designated Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) in Lagos.
The screening covers organ impairment, life-threatening ailments in children, visual and hearing problems, mental health services and orthopaedic services like bone deformity and hernia.
NAN also reports that the aim of the programme was to restore hope to people at the grassroots, and as well alleviate their medical challenges and inadequacies.

The beneficiaries told NAN that medical screening was an indicator that the governor and his deputy have an interest in the common man at hearts.
Commenting, Mrs Aigbe Oju, a Fruit Seller, thanked Sanwo-Olu and Hamzat for coming up with the medical mission to help the poor.
“I have been crying silently, day and night, praying to God to bring a helper, someone that will save my two months old daughter from glaucoma.
“She has been diagnosed of the eye disease at the Orile-Agege General Hospital; today, I am a happy mother, because Sanwo-Olu, a man of the people, is here to alleviate my daughters’ dilemma,” she said.
Also, Mrs Hafisat Aromasodun, a housewife, expressed appreciation to God for allowing her to benefit from the generosity of the state governor and his deputy.
“For good two years, I have been battling with my daughter’s health challenge of having a delay in walking; the moment I heard of this opportunity given by Sanwo-Olu, I brought her here.
“I am the happiest woman on earth now; you can feel it from the way I am speaking, because with this that the governor has given to the poor liberally, my child’s life will experience a turnaround,” the elevated mother said.
Another beneficiary, Mrs Kemi Ajobiewe, a Stylist, told NAN that the medical intervention would improve the health status of her son.
“My son, Kayode, is four years old, he is suffering from eye disease as well as a hernia.
“He has been battling with this health condition for a long time, but as every day passes, it seems as if there is no hope for me and my son.
“I am sincerely grateful for this feat; through it, my little boy’s health status will be enhanced,” she said.
Reacting, Mrs Chibuzo Chidinma, a Food Vendor in the community, also expressed happiness for the medical intervention.
“I have been a resident in Lagos for six years, and I have never benefitted from anything, even after paying my tax. This is the first thing I have enjoyed.
“My son had a delay in speech and body movements, the specialists here have attended to him free of charge, and he is going to undergo corrective surgery.
“Sanwo-Olu has cleared my doubts, I cannot believe my eyes,” she said joyfully.
