The Bauchi State Police Command has stated that thirteen suspects implicated in the offences of criminal conspiracy, adultery, and causing miscarriage leading to culpable homicide have been arrested.
The suspects were reported to have repeatedly abducted an 18-year-old lady, raped her, impregnated her, and attempted to abort the pregnancy, which eventually led to her death.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, stated: “On 04/04/2025 at about 0900hrs, information received from a reliable source revealed that approximately four months ago, the following suspects, namely Usman Umar, aged 22, of Fawari area of Misau; Sallau Ayuba, aged 21, of Lariski area of Misau; and Abubakar Mohammed, aged 35, of Misau, a second-year student of A.D. Rufai College for Islamic and Legal Studies, were implicated.”
He explained: “The first and second defendants lured a female (name withheld), aged 18 years, of the same address. They had sexual intercourse with her on different occasions at various locations, including Mahmood Lodge, situated within Misau town, which resulted in the victim’s pregnancy.”
He added: “Upon noticing the pregnancy, the two defendants invited the third defendant, Abubakar Mohammed. They offered him N40,000 to inject the pregnant victim and induce an abortion.”
“After the injection, the victim lost consciousness and became seriously ill, prompting her family to take her to the General Hospital, Misau. She was later referred to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Azare for further medical treatment. Subsequently, she was pronounced and certified dead by the hospital authorities while receiving treatment,” he added.
The PPRO further stated: “Upon receipt of the report, the suspects were arrested and confessed to their inglorious act, naming other accomplices connected to the case.”
Those further implicated in the crime include Alkali Kawu, Maule Mai Ride, Mai Tomatoes, Danguli, Yakubu, and Kura, who is a civil servant. Four others are currently under investigation at the Divisional Police Headquarters, Misau.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment and steadfastness in carrying out its statutory responsibility to ensure justice is served. The investigation is ongoing, and upon its conclusion, the suspects will be profiled and charged to court for the established offences accordingly.
