A total of 2,032 Corps members, comprising 1,060 Males and 972 females, were posted to Bauchi State for the mandatory One-year service. They had completed their registration and were sworn in to commence camping.
While addressing the Corps members, the State Governor, Sen. Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir, enjoined them to be patriotic and selfless in all their activities, both in the Camp and their places of primary assignment.
According to him, it is only through these virtues that the country can achieve the desired change it is working towards.
Bala Mohammed, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, State Ministry of Youths and Sports, Lawal Mohammed, stated that his administration placed a high premium on the youth and Corps members.
The Governor assured that “On our part, we are determined to make a huge investment in youths, and the government is aware of the numerous challenges confronting the NYSC, such as corps rejection and the infrastructural deficit at the orientation camps.”
Bala Mohammed added that “I have been informed that these problems have persisted unabated due to monumental growth in the graduate population and inadequate corresponding resource provisions.”
He added that “These seemingly intimidating obstacles should not dampen your zeal to make the desired sacrifice to serve your fatherland as the government is prepared to address these problems.”
Bala Mohammed, however, implored the corps members to settle down quickly and learn about higher ideals of life while also making themselves amendable for mobilisation towards national growth and development.
Meanwhile, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has commended Sen. Bala Mohammed for reconstructing the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp’s perimeter fence, which was destroyed by a rainstorm.
The Bauchi state Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs Rifkatu Yakubu, made the commendation on Friday during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2023 Batch B stream II corps members posted to the state.
The state Coordinator also lauded the state governor for embarking on the renovation of the state Coordinator’s residence and his avowed commitment to reconnect the electricity of the orientation camp to the national grid.
She explained that the orientation course had been designed to achieve specific objectives tailored towards the moulding of the corps members into responsible citizens who would focus on the development of the nation.
She said this would be achieved by imbibing the spirit of patriotism, selfless service, self-reliance, and good leadership qualities that would be instilled in them.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mr Lawal Mohammed, urged them to be selfless and committed to the noble cause.
“This is because the task of nation-building depends on our individual and collective efforts, especially the youth,” he said.
