Bauchi State Government has appreciated the financial and technical support provided by USAID funded Integrated Health Programme (IHP) in the area of health interventions which has scaled up effective and efficient healthcare service delivery.
The assertion was made by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Ali Babayo at a 3-day, 2023 Bauchi State Health Sector Factsheet Development Workshop holding at Jamil Hotel and Suites, Azare.
Ali Babayo who is the Acting Commissioner of Health said that the issue of factsheet for the State has lingered for a long time stressing that the need for its review and update cannot be overemphasised.
According to him, “The State is happy that IHP has come in to support the development of a factsheet, it will help present data and also help interpret these data “.
In his opening remarks, State Technical Director of USAID IHP, Bauchi, Dr Alhassan Siaka said that the factsheet will enable stakeholders in the health sector review progress in the implementation of health policies.
He said, “We have realised that the major challenge in the health sector is that of human resource for health, so we are to look at various strategies to be able to bridge the gap.”
Speaking on the Indicator trends and achievements, the USAID IHP Bauchi Senior Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, Samson Adeyemi said that IHP has provided interventions in the health sector since 2019.
He noted that some key interventions include the introduction of automated appointment reminders to clients, automated job aid calls where healthcare providers can call toll-free and listen to messages on diseases.
Samson Adeyemi added that the hotline complaints themes have given clients the opportunity to make complaints on worker attitude, availability or otherwise of drugs and the health facilities environment.
He stressed that, “USAID IHP Bauchi works in 411 primary Health Care Centers, 22 general hospitals, 43 private facilities and with 400 proprietary patent medicine vendors.”
In another presentation on the Bauchi State Health Sector Profile, the Director Planning Research and Statistics of the State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Jibreel Umar Muhammad said that despite the over 1000 health facilities in the State, health indicators are still very low.
He expressed confidence that with the active support of USAID-IHP, the indicators in the health sector will positively improve tremendously.
