Kano’s Meena Event Centre, the venue of the 21st edition of the ongoing comedy tour organised by telecommunication giant, Globacom, tagged Glo Laffta Fest, was overstretched last weekend.
Comedy’s best hands, Bright Okpocha, popularly known as Basketmouth, Bovi Ugboma, Francis Agoda (I Go Dye), Godwin Komone (Gordons), Iruvwe Okiemute (De Don), Patrick Onyeke (Mr. Patrick), and Saed Mohammad (Funky Mallam) were lined up for performance at the laughter festival.
The event coincided with the annual Durbar ceremony, the highpoint of the Eid-el-Kabir festival in Kano, and attracted thousands of fun seekers, who stormed the venue from communities across the state in expectation of a night of hilarious jokes and colourfulness.
Funky Mallam, De Don, Gordons, I Go Dye, Bovi, Basketmouth among others were at their best, cracking the audience up in turns and completely arresting the festive mood with comedy from climax to climax.
Most of the best lines and invectives were drawn from themes from politics, economy and religion. Kano was also commended by Gordons for maintaining peace and unity among the residents of the city.
The event was anchored by Nollywood actresses Mercy Johnson-Okojie and Uche Jombo were the show anchors, while DJ XGee supplied music from her turntable and witnessed cameo appearances from actors Sani Danja, Kanayo O. Kanayo and Victor Osuagwu, gifts to dance competition winners and early comers.
