Aggrieved aspirants from North-east zone jostling to fill the position of the National vice chairman, North-east zone of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have kicked against the appointment of Alhaji Mustapha Salihu to fill the position.

Tribune Online gathered that the position became vacant following the appointment of former occupant of the office, Engr. Babachir Lawal, to the position of Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

Tribune Online further gathered that the national secretary of the party, Mai Mala Buni had since issued a letter to Alhaji Salihu as sole nominee, a decision that has courted the anger of other aspirants for the office.

In a petition addressed to the national chairman of the party, titled, “Complaint on the brazen abuse of due process and injustice in the nomination for the replacement of the National Vice Chairman North-east,” dated 23rd June, 2017, the aggrieved aspirants called on Chief Oyegun to reverse the nomination of Alhaji Salihu immediately.

Those who signed the petition were Honourable Umar Duhu, Usman ya-Abbas and Umar Sanda Sani. They demanded “for the relief of the National Secretary from handling or interfering with the processes of nomination or election into the office of the National Vice Chairman North-east and any other position created thereof in the North-east zone.”

They further called on the National Chairman “to investigate forthwith and sanction appropriately the National Secretary for his involvement in smuggling in the name of Mustapha Salihu as the sole nominee for the position of the National Vice Chairman, North-east and for abusing due process and rule of law by scheming out the members of the National Working Committee from involvement in the process.”

They advised the Oyegun led national working committee to heed their call within seven days or face court action.

“That, after seven days of our letter, the National Chairman refuses to act: we shall be left with no option than to challenge the processes in the law court.”
