APGA leadership crisis: We will triumph in court ― Okeke faction

The faction of the All Progressive Grande Alliance (APGA) led by Jude Okeke has expressed confidence that it would prevail in court and its candidate, Chukwuma Umeoji, would contest the November 6, Anambra State governorship election.

Following a Jigawa State court judgement recognising the faction as the authentic APGA leadership, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had confirmed Umeoji as the candidate of the party in the election.

But this has now been upturned by the High Awka Court which directed INEC to restore Professor Chukwuma Soludo as the candidate of the party under the Victor Ike Oye-led faction of the party.

However, the Okeke faction in a statement issued by his lawyer, Tony Ani, SAN, on Monday, said the court would upturn the Justice Okaa judgment on appeal at the Court of Appeal, Awka division.

The counsel to Okeke who had withdrawn a motion seeking leave to appeal as an interested person said the withdrawal of his motion and the immediately filing a fresh one was to ensure that the respondents do not ambush his client on mere technical grounds.

Ani said the victory already recorded by the faction in the Kano Division of the Court of Appeal was an indication that the APGA faction would prevail in the end.

He, therefore, urged the party faithful to remain focused on the task ahead to mobilise grassroots support for the party to achieve a landslide victory.

He noted that the Akwa High Court ruling was a temporary set back which he was hopeful would soon be rectified,  Okeke affirmed as the Ag. National Chairman of APGA.
