APC youths demand 40 per cent representation in government

The youth wing of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), on Wednesday, said it was shut out in the distribution of appointments by the President Muhammadu Buhari administration.

The various youth wings under the aegis of Buhari Support Organisation, stormed the party national secretariat yesterday and demanded 40 per cent representation in the subsequent appointments to be made by the President.

Speaking with newsmen, the National Youth Leader of the party, Sadiq Abubakar, decried the alienation of youth who worked for the victory of the party in the just-concluded general elections.

He said:  “We are just coming out of the familiarisation and appreciation meeting with our support groups that really helped us during the 2019 elections. Basically what was discussed, is to show appreciation and to see how we can steer the affairs of the youths with the country and how policies that are being made will protect the youth.

“And getting us involved in governance. Some have discussed about their plights and much that will be offered for the youths as their contribution as a party and their support group.”

Abubakar further revealed that the umbrella body of the youth group had since petitioned the Presidency to seek redress over the appointments which he noted were skewed against them.

“Basically, we want appointment of the youth in governance. Much things have been organised and there are policies that will involve us in terms of appointment. There has been a communiqué between us, the party and the presidency. We are expecting appointments for Heads of parastatals and agencies.

“The executive has constituted the council, that is the ministers, we haven’t found much of our own representation there as a party, of the youth wing, but we have communicated, I think something is going to come handy for us. We are expecting 40 per cent.”
