The All Progressive Congress (APC) in Plateau State has described the threat issued by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang’s defection to APC as empty.

Recall that the Plateau  Chapter of the PDP accused Governor Mutfwang of betrayal of the people’s trust; lack of consultation, accusing the APC of complicity for accepting him into its fold.

The APC in a statement signed by its state Publicity Secretary, Shittu Bamaiyi, said the PDP was simply looking for relevance and attention by the threat and at the same time, accusing the APC in the state of complicity.

“Funny as it is, if Governor Mutfwang did not consult as claimed by the Party, how come the Governor joined the APC with the erstwhile PDP most important members, like Senators Simon Mwatkon, Napoleon Bali, Hon.Beni Lar, Honourable Dachung Bagos and all the seventeen local government councils chairmen?”

It further stated that the statement issued by the PDP’s leader, Senator Jonah Jang, was instructive, to the extent of saying that the governor consulted him before wisely moving out of the party.

The APC declared: “Undoubtedly, Governor Mutfwang and the other leaders that accompanied him to the APC were said to have controlled more than 90% of the PDP followership and therefore, the claim that he betrayed the people’s trust is neither here nor there, more so when his new found Party which before now was the main opposition, has heartily and graciously received him.

“Based on the foregoing, if at all the Governor did not consult the PDP leadership, it means that the Party’s officials are either politically ineffective or being economical with the truth, as far as  Mutfwang’s defection was concerned,”

According to the APC, to most discerning minds and pundits, Governor Mutfwang’s move and that of his vibrant team is calculative and measured as well as popular and not self-serving.

It mentioned that it would have been foolhardy for the governor to remain glued to the PDP when there was a viable alternative to accomplish the wishes and aspirations of the people of the state that brought him into office.

The party added that the accusation that the APC was complicit in accepting the governor clearly marks frustration and confusion in the minds of the PDP leftovers, because the governor has the constitutional right to join any political Party of his choice.
