Anambra Govt tasks borehole drillers on standard

Mr Emmanuel Igwebuike, the Director, Water Resources, Ministry of Power and Domestic Water Development in Anambra, has advised borehole drillers in the state to use standard materials.

He advised those using sub-standard materials to stop or face the wrath of the law.

Igwebuike gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka on Friday.

He said that using sub-standard maters was a disservice to the state, the society and mankind and charged the drillers to adopt global best practices to provide quality water for the people.

Igwebuike said the World Health Organisation’s report had revealed that 70 per cent of health challenges came from water whose usage cut across all human activities.

He enjoined the drillers to avoid unhealthy competition that might compromise standards.

The director said that the state government had put measures in place to enforce compliance with laid down guidelines and standard.

He also advised the drillers to eschew rancour and maintained the peace to pave way for professional growth and development.

Igwebuike said that unity among the group was fundamental for them to access government’s empowerment programmes.
