Akpabio: Natasha resubmits sexual harassment petition to Senate

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, has resubmitted a sexual harassment petition against the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio.

Tribune Online reports that following Natasha’s presentation of the petition at the plenary on Wednesday, the Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct, and Public Petitions rejected it, describing the petition as “dead on arrival,” citing Senate Standing Order 40, which prohibits a Senator from signing his or her own petition.

However, the Kogi Senator, speaking during the presentation on Thursday, said the newly submitted petition was filed by her constituents, led by one Zubairu Yakubu.

Reacting to the fresh presentation, Akpabio inquired whether there were any legal impediments to accepting the petition, and she responded none.

Natasha was subsequently instructed by the Senate President to formally lay the petition before the Senate.

Akpabio, again, referred it to the Ethics Committee, led by Senator Neda Imasuen, directing them to report back to the plenary within four weeks after legislative review.
