Agric ministry to spend N87m to maintain generators, N35m for fuel in 2022

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has proposed to spend a total of N87,883,635 million to maintain plants and generators in 2022.

The Ministry also proposed to spend N35,181,960 million to fuel the generators and plants in 2022.

This is contained in the national budget proposal presented to the National Assembly by President Muhammadu Buhari on October 7 this year.

The Ministry will also spend N99,843,343 million on the maintenance of motor vehicles and transport equipment in 2022.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has N291.4 billion budget proposal for 2022, which is 1.8 per cent of the national budget.

President Buhari had on many occasions promised to diversify the nation’s economy through agriculture.

Since his first administration started in 2015, President Buhari had rolled out various agricultural programs which include the Anchor Borrowers Program which is driven by the Central Bank of Nigeria.

With the 1.8 per cent allocated to the agricultural sector in the national budget, the President is expecting to produce more food in order to fight hunger and create more jobs in the sector.
