Governorship candidate of Lagos State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Jimi Agbaje, has lamented the transportation challenges facing residents of the state, assuring them that his government would provide the formula for succour.
PDP governorship candidate expressed this concern a statement issued by his campaign office, even as he carpeted the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for failing to provide the needed infrastructure and support systems to facilitate the easy movement of people within the metropolis.
Agbaje assured residents of access to modern mass transportation modes when he got elected into office on March 2, saying he felt personally appalled whenever he saw the state of transportation in the state.
According to him, the current transportation system in the state as of today has failed to address the needs of the over 20 million inhabitants of the state, saying it had occasioned as a situation whereby Lagosians struggle daily to move from one point to the other because of the lack of basic infrastructure that would facilitate seamless movement.
“I am appalled whenever I see the state of transportation in the state. The current transportation system as we currently have it today has failed to address the needs of the over 20 million inhabitants of the state. Every day, Lagosians struggle to move from one point to the other because of the lack of basic infrastructure that would facilitate seamless movement,” Agbaje lamented, just as he also decried poor state of the roads, as well as the failure to guarantee a supportive environment for private sector participation in the sector.

“Traversing the nooks and crannies of the state, one is greeted with the sight of the dilapidated state of public roads infrastructure. This has unduly increased the travel time of residents. Added to this is the fact that successive regimes have failed to consider the need to open up more frontiers for public transportation.
“For example, the people of Ikorodu have in the last 20 years been promised the elusive Fourth Mainland Bridge that has never come on board and has remained a pipedream,” he further lamented.
Agbaje equally expressed sympathy with those living along the Mile 2-Okokomaiko corridor over their daily harrowing traffic experience, stemming from the non-completion of the Apapa-Badagry highway which they commenced work on 10 years ago.
On what the residents should expect from his government, he said: “My manifesto as regards the transportation sector has been carefully worked out to address the numerous issues comprehensively.”
