The Rivers State Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, on Thursday, declined the invitation of the Ad-hoc Committee set up by the leadership of the House of Representatives to oversee his activities.
The Chairman of the Ad-hoc Committee, Hon Julius Ihonvbere, held a closed-door meeting with other Committee members at Committee Room 301, the venue of the meeting. However, he declined to address Parliamentary Correspondents after the meeting, which lasted approximately 50 minutes.
Some Nigerians who waited earnestly until the end of the closed-door meeting, originally scheduled for 3 pm, expressed grave concerns about why the meeting commenced earlier than planned.
Members who attended the meeting included: Deputy Chief Whip, Hon Ali Jesse; Chairman of the House Committee on Federal Character, Hon Idris Wase; Chairman of the House Committee on FCT, Hon Aliyu Muktar Betara; and Chairman of the House Committee on Finance, Hon Abiodun James Faleke.
Others present were: Chairman of the House Committee on Water Resources, Hon Sada Soli; Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Finance, Hon Iduma Igariwey; and Chairman of the House Committee on Health Services, Hon Patrick Umoh.
When asked to provide an update on the outcome of the meeting, Hon Igariwey did not respond.
When informed that the Ad-hoc Committee had invited the media to cover the proceedings, the Majority Deputy Whip urged Parliamentary Correspondents to wait, shouting “Leader, Leader.”
Despite his entreaties, Hon Ihonvbere refused to yield to his calls.
