The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control NAFDAC, has uncovered another two trucks of fake and expired drugs at the plumbing section of Onitsha market, Anambra State, in the ongoing war against fake, counterfeit, unregistered and expired drugs in the state.
The new development was made known to Journalists by the Director of NAFDAC South East Zone, Dr Martins Iluyomade during a press conference held at the premises of the Plumbing material market in the commercial city of the State, on Friday.
Nigerian Tribune gathered that the two truck now total twelve truck of 40-foot containers, the agency have uncovered so far since the efforcemement started two weeks ago.
luyomade, however, while reacting to the media war against the agency on the ongoing enforcement by some critics, urged the people of Onitsha and Anambra at large to strongly support the agency in the fight against fake, expired and falsified drugs across the country.

He said what the agency is currently doing under the leadership of it Director General, Prof Moji Adeyeye is to better the Nigeria society.

He explained that the operatives are raiding only shops where the fake, counterfeit, unregistered and expired drugs are being hiding and not the entire market as being speculated on the social media by some drug traffickers.
“What we are currently doing in Onitsha and in some part of the country, is for the good of all. We are urging those calling for the reopening of Onitsha market while the raiding is still ongoing should support us and not to twart our effort.
“We are working on intelligence on this operation in Onitsha. Today, in this plumbing material market alone, we uncovered two truck of fake and expired drugs stored in various shops.
“And from our gathering it seems the plumbing material market is the headquarters of this fake and expired drugs in the entire south east.
The operation, conducted in collaboration with security agencies, market leaders and other critical stakeholders is part of the Federal Government’s ongoing crackdown on the circulation of counterfeit drugs in the country, which gave the agency the full power and backing to carry out the operation.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating the distribution of substandard and falsified drugs in Nigeria.
Iluyomade used the briefing to also appeal to the media to help project positively what the agency is doing before the interational communities.
