Aftermath Osinbajo’s visit to airport: FAAN commences repair works at MMIA

FOLLOWING the impromptu visit by the Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport last week, the Managing Director of Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Saleh Dunoma has given a marching order to engineers to commence repair works on all equipment at the International with immediate effect.

Dunoma gave the directive to the engineers and the airport manager after inspecting the facilities at the airport at the weekend.

During an inspection that lasted for hours, the FAAN boss in company of FAAN Director of Commercials and Business Development, Mr Sadiku Abdulkadir Rafindadi and other top management staff inspected the escalators, conveyor belts, departure terminal, arrival terminal and other sections of the airport.

Speaking to journalists shortly after the tour, Dunoma said the tour had become necessary following the Acting President’s visit to the Lagos airport recently; pointing out that the visit with his technical team was to come up with plan to implement his instructions immediately.

Dunoma after the tour said: “There are few things we need to fix immediately. Immediately means immediately. This is a presidential directive. We will not waste time and that is why you see us working on a Saturday. We will still work tomorrow (Sunday). We just have to come up with strategic implementation plans so that we don’t disrupt operations.”

According to Dunoma, there are some few mechanical equipment like the travelators that needed to be fixed.  Other areas according to him are some few toilet facilities and some other external facilities. “We have a contract on the chillers.  Funding has been a problem for us but we are pushing to see that it is fixed.

“I want to assure the travelers that we are working. With the support of His Excellency and Minister of State for Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, we will surmount all the issues.”

Meanwhile, the Minister of State for Aviation, Senator.  Hadi Sirika, said there was no link between the Acting President Yemi Osinbajo’s visit to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, and the ongoing reorganisation in the aviation agencies.

According to NAN, Sirika said this in a statement signed an released to newsmen by Mr James Odaudu, Deputy Director, Press and Public Affairs, Ministry of Transportation in Abuja.

Sirika said that the visit of the Acting President on Thursday was to assess the state of facilities at the nation’s number one airport.

“It was also to identify possible areas that needed the government’s immediate attention,” he said.
