Afenifere, Ohanaeze resolve to work in Nigeria’s interest

Pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere and its Igbo counterpart, Ohanaeze have jointly resolved to work together in the interest of the two nations and the progress of Nigeria.

The duo agreed on the resolution when the new President General of Ohanaeze, Chief Nia John Nwodo led a powerful delegation of the group on a historic visit to the Pan-Yoruba organisation, Afenifere at the weekend in Lagos.

Nwodo was received by an equally powerful group of Afenifere led by Chief Ayo Adebanjo, who stood in for the Leader, Chief Reuben Fasoranti,

Spokesperson of Afenifere, Mr. Yinka Odumakin, disclosed this in a statement made available to the Nigerian Tribune, describing the meeting as significant being the first outing of Chief Nwodo to any socio-cultural group in the country since his election.

He said the meeting of long-time associates was full of reminiscences, back-slappings and reflections on issues of common concerns to the Igbo and Yoruba nations within the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

This was just as he said that Afenifere reiterated its support for Nwodo as choice to lead Ndigbo at this crucial period.

Earlier, Chief Nwodo said the decision to make Afenifere his first place of call was based on the fact that it was the first organisation that openly congratulated him and later followed it with phone calls from its prominent leaders.

Chief Adebanjo was joined by other Afenifere leaders, including the Chairman, Prof. Banji Akintoye, Dr. Amos Akingba, Chief Supo Sonibare and Mr. Odumakin.

On Chief Nwodo’s delegation are the DIG Hillary Opara, Dr. Sylvanus Ebigwei, Mr. Charles Odunukwe, Chief Guy Ikokwu and Chief Ben Onwugalu.
