FACTIONAL chairman of Lagos State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Otunba Segun Adewale, on Monday frowned at the decision of the National Caretaker Committee of party to dissolve some states’ executives, including Lagos, describing the step as injustice to his group and supporters.
Adewale said this in a press statement made available to newsmen, jeven as he further described the decision as a clear indication of the National Working Committee’s resolve on punishing party members believed to be loyal to erstwhile national chairman, Senator Ali-Modu Sheriff.
Otunba Adewale, who insisted that his Exco – led PDP was legally constituted after a well conducted state congress in May 2016, pointed out that the decision of the National Caretaker Committee of the party to dissolve Lagos exco, among others was also a clear indication that some forces within the zone were behind the step taken sop far.
“It is clear that some forces within the zone were behind the dissolution of the South-West states involved which include Lagos,Ogun and Osun,” he said, wondering why Ekiti State executive was not dissolved.
The PDP chieftain, however, expressed satisfaction that Moshood Salvador led exco was not declared as authentic in Lagos State as this would have created a lot of set back for the party, just as he noted that for the time he was leading the party, he ensured that it remained relevant in the state, even in the face of intimidation
“Under my leadership as the chairman of the party, we have remained steadfast in our pursuit of ensuring the party remains relevant in Lagos even in the face of intimidation.
“Despite the division in the party after the Salvador group encouraged our members to decamp to other parties which include Labour, APDA and Accord Party, PDP produced four councillors.
“Same relevant feat was recorded in 2015 election as we won some House of Reps and House of Assembly seats. We are hoping to consolidate on these achievements but to achieve this, the party must remain united, focused and devoid of internal betrayers,” Adewale said.
Otunba Adewale said he had expected the National Caretaker Committee of PDP to have invited the warring factions in the state for reconciliation meeting rather taken what he termed “unjustifiable dissolution.”
“I do not have a choice than to respect the decision. We will await composition of caretaker committee in the state to hand over the secretariat to them.
“I also wish to reiterate the need to ensure that all stakeholders are comprehensively carried along for inputs before the caretaker committee is constituted,” Adewale counselled.
