I am delighted to delve into a constructive analysis of Hilary Utuke’s article on Artificial Intelligence, connecting the dots and crossing the T’s with other things being equal.
Over the years, I have been a keen follower of trends in technology, being a bonafide expert in software engineering. My passion for AI has inspired me to delve into its potential to address worldwide human problems, grounded in the belief that AI can serve as a catalyst for positive change, providing enduring solutions to today’s most urgent problems.
I particularly took an interest in the technology column of the Tribune as its emerging as a meeting point for like-minds on trends in technology. Mr. Hilary Utuke’s article on AI caught my attention, and after much perusal, I felt compelled to review it for the same reasons others have done for other articles published in this column in the past: extending knowledge frontiers through constructive criticism.
Review:
Asides that Hilary was intentional about the heading’s choice of words, which reads ‘Artificial Intelligence (AI) Reigns Supreme.’ One of the most important thing of a scholarly work is the tone ushered by its words, Hilary, however, set an incredible tone with this heading, presenting the superiority of the topic’s variable, being AI. This heading is crafted to engage readers and set the stage for content that follows. The word ‘reigns’ is rather quite assertive and suggests dominance, inadvertently provoking thoughts and concerns for discussion. The meticulous choice of wording for the heading presents Hilary as an effective communicator who understands coherent verbal communication patterns.
The article progressed to highlighting the radical and transformative advancement of AI and how its ubiquitous nature has revolutionized major sectors of the world, today. Hilary’s mastery allowed him to objectively weave its content to give tech-startups insights on how to use AI, enabling easy and seamless venture experience. Starting with the introduction, which served its function in full, giving the readers an overall scope of the article, informs on AI’s transformative power in Africa across different sectors. However, embedded were phrases such as “envelope most sectors of the world” which could have been more concised to improve clarity level.
The article dived straight to phasing the influence of AI in sectors which can be totally agreed as an excellent point of execution. At this point of the article, readers would assemble their train of thoughts to grasp value. In healthcare, indicative was the significance of AI in diagnostics, citing 54gene and LifeBank as examples. These examples represents actual effects of AI in the healthcare sector as both healthcare hacks have contributed to quite an impressive growth for the industry. The only concern here would be the unexplored subtance of these examples. The intensity of the examples weren’t presented the way it ought to, judging from the real-time prowess. Maybe more case studies would have worked the trick. This followed suit in the Predictive Analytics sector, where information therein was great ane highly informative but not particularly deepened to show the technicality involved in the sector.
Hilary’s article covered a clever branching and it ticks the creative sense in a reader as he unfurled the content of these sectors on an individual level rather than merging them to make the impact of AI uniformed or pointed in one direction. The branching into the Finance, Credit scoring & Loan Approval, and Agriculture sector was apt and poised to offer comprehensive contributions. This showcased range of AI’s impact across the sectors gave room for specificity and clarity leaning against the likelihood of others to have easily merged the sectors, automatically reducing the weight of the impact, however, Hilary took the right route with singling out each sector and spotlighting AI’s influence. It’s important to note that tech startups are exposed to the opportunities that lurk within the scope of AI and how they can be fully harnessed for growth.
While the provided range of sectors excites me, I appreciated more, the futuristic insights Hilary cemented in the article. He extended an olive to other sectors, even if not extensively detailed, he highlighted them to shoot awareness for tech-statups on the numerous opportunities that lurks within the AI niche. Hilary cites that in healthcare, AI has helped with diagnostics and treatment plans. In finance, AI has facilitated algorithmic trading, fraud detection and proffering diverse financial risk management plans. Further moved to citing that in education, AI has introduced personalized learning platforms, making learning and tutoring easy for both students and teachers. In transportation, AI brought an evolution to autonomous vehicles and produced self-driving cars to enhance road safety. In manufacturing, robots are specialized AI tools used to implement physical tasks and offer quality control of service. Retail isn’t left out as e-commerce is on the rise because of AI-powered platforms. AI undoubtedly has a profound effect on sectors, driving innovative efficiency for better results. Tech-startups need to tap in the growth of AI technologies so impact would be quickened.
Acknowledging challenges faced by a technology is the first way to encourage solutions. Hilary’s article addressed the challenges faced by AI startups in Africa, stating that they are true and relatable. As compared to the West, Africa’s data connection and availability still creeps behind. This lag hinders the functionality of some AI technologies, making the end-result a pictorial representation of zero quality. Infrastructures should be adequately placed in order to allow operations of AI experts and tech-startups flourish. While the article provided a few solutions and recommendations, it slightly didn’t provide a more practical strategy to get these recommendations exercised upon. The solutions were rather less constructive.
Constructive Opinion
I think Hilary’s attempt at providing a comprehensive overview of AI and its overwhelming impact on sectors in Africa was great. It’s amazing how the information provided is factual, inclusive of its benefits and challenges. I consider the article cohesive and possessive of high logicality levels, having the readers move from one point to another in a smooth pattern without digression. However, the writing could have incorporated more perspectives on the AI niche, allowing the readers to be aware of a lot and thirst for more. Despite these minor concerns, the article was a mind renewing experience as it effectively reflects the high-power of AI and its potential to elevate the operations of tech-startups.
