Jamiu (surname witheld), is a self-acclaimed Disc Jockey (DJ) and generator repairer, but beyond doing these, he was engaging in homosexual acts with young boys who he used to meet at parties where he also went to beg for alms as they were doing.
Jamiu continued in the act, reportedly exploiting the need of the boys to force them into anal sex, until he was recently arrested by a joint patrol team of vigilante personnel at Oluyole Local Government Area of Ibadan, Oyo State, when his last victim, a 15-year-old JSS2 student, raised the alarm after the deed was allegedly forced on him.
According to information gathered by Saturday Tribune, on December 11, as usual, Jamiu was at a funeral ceremony at Mob’Oluwaduro Area along Olomi-Olunde Road to beg for alms when he sighted a boy (name withheld) whom he was already familiar with as one of the beggars.
After having randy thoughts, he was said to have approached the boy, telling him to lead him to where he could defecate. After they got to an unoccupied building, Jamiu reportedly went inside with the boy, quickly grabbed his belt, unbuckled it, pulled down his trousers, turned the boy’s backside to his groin and attempted a penetration of his anus.
After unsuccessful attempts and injuring the boy, he reportedly left him, which made the boy to come out of the house, looking for whom to report the incident to. Fortunately, some men were said to be walking on the path nearby when the distressed boy called out to them to intimate them of what happened. When he was examined, bruises were seen on the outer area of his anus.
Confirming the incident when contacted by Saturday Tribune, the leader of the vigilante group, Olusegun Idowu, who is also the Commandant of Oluyole Security Surveillance Team (OSST), said that his team received a call, moved to the area promptly and arrested the suspect.
Idowu said that after preliminary interrogation, Jamiu was transferred to Sanyo Division of Oyo State Police Command for further investigation.
The defiled teenager, in an interview, said: “I met Jamiu at a party where I went to get free food and money from guests. At about 3pm, the man who sexually abused me called me. I have impaired hearing, so I thought he asked me to take him to where he could defecate. When we got there, he pulled down his trousers as if he wanted to bend to pass out faeces but suddenly pulled me also, unbuckled my belt, turned me around with him facing my back and inserted his manhood into my anus. It was painful.
I struggled but he had more strength than me as he held me. When he left me, I went out of the unoccupied building and raised the alarm as I saw some people approaching where I stood. That was how he was apprehended.”
The boy said that his parents were feeding him but just used to go to parties to enjoy free food and get some tips, which he was doing without his parents’s knowledge.
Jamiu, who did not know his date of birth, told Saturday Tribune that he was introduced to anal sex with male partners by a neighbourhood brother identified as Alahusa a year ago. Since then, he always had the urge to do it whenever he had erection when at parties.
Giving an insight to his background, the suspect said: “Though my parents live in Ibadan, they divorced a long time ago. My mother had two of us for my father while she got three for her current husband.
“I had been living in different places since I was young, including my stay with my paternal grandmother. I used to visit my mother and stay with her sometimes, but I and two friends sleeping in her house were accused of stealing tricycle battery which we did not do. However, we were so beaten that we admitted the crime we did not commit.
“My mother was so embarrassed that she asked me to go and live with my father. This was about four months ago. At a point, I had no family to relate with. They had all disowned me and didn’t want to relate with me. I started staying in a brothel where I was doing menial jobs. I was also working as a DJ and generator repairer.”
Explaining the reason behind his arrest, Jamiu said: “I met a boy at a funeral party at Agric, Olomi area. We usually met at parties to beg for alms and also get food to eat. As I saw the boy, who later gave his age as 15, I started having erection.
“I went to him and asked him to follow me to a quiet area. When we got to an unoccupied building, I unbuckled his belt, pulled down his trousers, asked him to turn his back to me and had anal sex with him.”
Saying that it was his first time with the 15-year-old boy, Jamiu admitted that he had been doing it with different boys, after which he would give them N500 each as reward.
He confessed to have started the homosexual act about a year ago at Odinjo area of the city. “Some young men taught me, but I don’t think they are still in Ibadan. They would tell me to lie down and start having anal sex with me.
“A neighbourhood brother that we used to call Alahusa started with me. That day, he sent me to buy him alcohol and marijuana. When I returned, he asked me to come inside where he was, gave me hemp to smoke and had anal sex with me. That was how I decided that I would also do it with any young boy that I come across. I was doing it once in a week. I had done it with four boys. I paid them N500 each. The last boy is the fifth. It was difficult penetrating him so I withdrew.”
Speaking further on the boy he was caught with, the suspect said: “We had finished and the boy came out of where we were. As he stood, he noticed some young men coming and went to tell them what I did to him. I had yet to give him the N500 payment when the guys descended on me and took the money I had with me.
“I was engaging in anal sex whenever I had a hard-on, so that I can experience relief after penetration, though I didn’t usually ejaculate.”
He said that he started smoking hemp some years ago and used to have erection after the inhalation. “Whenever I wanted to perform as DJ, I would smoke hemp so as to play very well. And it usually excited the audience at the party. However, I no longer smoke hemp. I just take schnapps in sachets.
“Girls didn’t use to yield to my advances whenever I approached them, so I usually went to call girls at Labo area to satisfy my sexual urge, paying N1,000 for two minutes,” Jamiu further explained.
When asked why he started practising homosexuality when he had access to ladies, Jamiu replied: “I was pushed into it by those who started it with me.”
