PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari, before embarking on his current medical vacation, transmitted a letter to the National Assembly.
In the said letter, he named the Vice President as the coordinator of affairs of the government. He said: “While I am away, the Vice President will coordinate the activities of the government.”
Since the National Assembly received that letter, the polity has been unnecessarily heated up by some commentators who believed that the president must have intended to heat up the polity. But Buhari did nothing of the sort.
True, he may have used a wrong word, but interpretation in law is based on the spirit of documents and not the letter. President Buhari does not have a history of sidelining his deputies.
Even as a military Head of State, he gave the late Major-General Tunde Idiagbon all the respect that he deserved. Acting President Yemi Osinbajo should be allowed to do his job without distractions.
He has shown himself as a loyal and dependable public servant and should be allowed to concentrate on the job of putting Nigeria on the right track while President Buhari regains his health in the United Kingdom.
