Musa Illiyasu Kwankwaso, a stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano, has explained why President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reelection in 2027 is sacrosanct.
Kwankwaso agrees with APC Chairman Abdullahi Umar Ganduje that Tinubu deserves a second term, citing fairness and the need for the South to complete its eight-year term in office, just like former President Muhammadu Buhari did.
Kwankwaso argues that no “selfish” political influence can prevent Tinubu from securing massive votes in Northern Nigeria.
He also claims that the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) lacks the political values to speak on behalf of the North, accusing its members of prioritising their private interests over the region’s well-being.
The APC chairman’s comments have sparked controversy, with some northerners rejecting the idea of waiting until 2031 for a northern president.
However, Kwankwaso maintains that Ganduje’s position is justified, given Tinubu’s contributions to the Northern region’s development, including numerous ongoing projects.
“Let me tell you, most of those in Arewa Forum were in power for decades, but what do they do to salvage the interest of the North? Is it now that it is too late, do they want to start defending the North? They should be told that it is no longer business as usual. They should rather save their private interest, not the North.
Kwankwaso reminded Solomon Dalung, who is in the forefront of attacking Tinubu’s government, that, “Were you not silent after grabbing power in the Government of Buhari despite your critical position of Anti-misgovernment?
“People like Solomon Dalung, Najaatu Muhammad, Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and host of others have nothing to tell the North because they cannot show what they did to the region.
“Ganduje is right to say the North should wait till 2031 to start talking about power because right now one can clearly see the huge contributions of his to the development of the region.
“Today the entire Northern Nigeria has become a project site with so many projects going on and these are being undertaken by President Tinubu, and more are still in the pipeline and will come by the time he returns to Power in 2027,” he said.
