Muslim and Christian faithful in Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos State have offered prayers for peaceful elections, good governance, and national unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The interfaith prayer programme, held at U.A.M.C. Eleja Primary School in Igbogbo, put together by the Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA Muslim and Christian Communities, also provided an opportunity for political stakeholders to canvass support for candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom, Oba Abdusemiu Orimadegun-Kasali, who described the prayer session as the first of its kind in Ikorodu Division of Lagos State, called on all citizens to assist the leaders at all tiers of government with their prayers rather than saying negative things about them and the country.
Oba Orimadegun-Kasali thanked the organisers of the programme, expressing the hope that the prayer session would be a continuous one, for peace and development to prevail in Lagos and the country as a whole.
In his address and sermon, Commander Peter Olabode said the day was set aside to make a strong statement on the need for peaceful elections, come 2027.
Quoting from the Bible, Commander Olabode emphasised that when the godly are in authority, people rejoice, but when the wicked are in power, the people groan, and prayed that Nigerians would not lament or groan before, during and after the coming elections.
