The National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has declared that Kwankwasiyya, the political movement led by former Kano State Governor and 2023 NNPP presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is no longer a force to reckon with.
Ganduje asserted that those who supported Kwankwaso in the past now regret their decisions, adding that the APC is poised to reclaim Kano State in the 2027 elections.
Speaking at the 8th and 9th APC Kano State House of Assembly Forum Dinner held in honour of prominent party members, Ganduje, represented by the Kano State APC Chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, said, “I can swear to God, if not for our internal issues, he (Kwankwaso) wouldn’t have won any election in Kano. This time around, he will see the reality. Those who supported him before are disappointed and full of regret. Kwankwasiyya is done, and even the governor is unaware of everything happening around him.”
The APC national chairman urged party members to unite to reclaim the state from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), which secured victory in Kano during the 2023 governorship election. Ganduje dismissed Kwankwaso’s claims of enjoying Kano people’s support, emphasizing that the APC remains the dominant party in the state.
“I am always surprised when Rabiu Kwankwaso claims he has the people’s support. Unity is the only way out for us. It’s the only option we have to achieve our goals. God has already intervened in our situation,” Ganduje added.
Criticizing the current administration in Kano State, Ganduje described the NNPP-led government as ineffective and warned that the next election would be an easy win for the APC. “The current government is distorting the state, and we are just waiting for the right time. The next election will be like moving a hen away from its eggs,” he said.
Also speaking at the event, the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, echoed Ganduje’s sentiments, stressing the need for unity among party stakeholders ahead of 2027. “The issue of the election is not our problem. If it were to hold today, we have no reason to fear. Let us pray and stay united. The current leadership in the state is ineffective, and no one is satisfied with their governance,” Ata said.
The Forum’s Chairman, Abdul’azeez Garba Gafasa, in his welcome address, commended party leaders for their efforts to strengthen unity within the APC.
The dinner, attended by several dignitaries, including the Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, represented by his Chief of Staff, Muhammad Ibn Abdallah, provided a platform to rally APC members and strategize for the 2027 elections.
