Bishops who met with Tinubu, Taofeek Lawal Attachments 17:03 (47 minutes ago) to me Insecurity, economy downturn: Buhari's wife begs Nigerians Taofeek Lawal, Abuja Wife of the president, Hajia Aisha Muhammadu Buhari, has apologised to Nigerians over the insecurity situation the country is passing through in the last seven years as well as the harsh economy which has made live difficult for Nigerians. The president's wife stated this on Friday in Abuja at the 62nd Independence Day Special Juma'at Prayer and Public Lecture with the theme "Shura: The Islamic Foundation of True Democracy" which was held at the National Mosque Conference Hall, Abuja. According to her, the noticeable devaluation of the naira and the continuous drop in the foreign exchange rate has taken its toll on the economy which she said is responsible for the hardship and difficulties Nigerians are passing through in education, health and other day to day activities. She nonetheless commended the activities of the military in checkmating security challenges so far in the country and wish them more success. "Your Excellencies, distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen, as you may be aware that this government is making its exit and perhaps witnessing the last anniversary of the regime, I pray for Nigerians to pray for successful election and transition program. The regime might not have been a perfect one, but I want to seize this opportunity to seek for forgiveness from the Ulamas and Nigerians in general. We all need to work together to achieve a better Nigeria. "Your Excellencies, distinguished guests, it is also noticeable that our naira is being devaluated and the foreign exchange rate has affected our economy causing a lot of hardship and difficulties in terms of education, health and other day to day activities of our citizens. We must unite and fight against security challenges. While the efforts of the government are well appreciated, it is important to know that many programs have been put in place such as agriculture, entrepreneurship, engagement of youth and women to cushion the effects and provide alternatives. "I myself through my Aisha Buhari and Future Assured have put in place deliberate efforts and programs focused on improving the quality of women, youth and children. Through this effect, I have empowered many communities. I appreciate all my partners and collaborators, the wives of the governors, the wives of service chiefs, my associates, well wishers, international bodies, that is development partners, I thank them all. "I'm particularly happy that our security agents have stood up to the challenges of security more than ever before. And at the moment, their efforts have been pushing the effects of banditry, kidnapping and many other ills in the society. I commend the efforts of our gallant security men and women and I want to pray for more successes in their operations."

The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has said the “Pentecostal Bishops Forum of Northern Nigeria” who met with Bola Tinubu, Presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), on Friday, in Abuja, are not part of the fellowship.

Speaking in an interview with newsmen in Kaduna, the Deputy National Secretary of the PFN, Bishop David Bakare, said such group does not exist within the PFN fold.

Bakare noted that the forum is not known to the PFN, saying there is nothing in PFN that is regional based like Southern or Northern Pentecostal Bishops.

Bakare who maintained that the PFN is an arm of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), said the position of the fellowship on the same faith presidential ticket of the APC has not changed.

To this end, he posited that the meeting between Tinubu and the Pentecostal Bishops Forum of Northern Nigeria has nothing to do with the PFN.

“I am speaking to you officially and authoritatively that the ranks of the Christian community and of course, the PFN which I represent are not broken at all.

“The Pentecostal Bishops Forum of Northern Nigeria is not known to the PFN. The forum does not have any affiliation or relationship with the PFN that is registered with the government of this nation.”

He also said the position of the PFN on the same faith ticket does not change.

“On same faith ticket, we still stand as it was in the beginning and we have not, for any reason, shifted our position on that matter. The PFN was not a part of the meeting with the presidential candidate that was highly politicised.

“We are however aware of the ripples in the public domain about this matter.

“I am speaking officially to clarify that the PFN has nothing to do with that organisation.

“We didn’t take such a decision, we have not met that political party and whatever we will do would be in the public domain.

“That group is on their own and has nothing to do with the real incorporated PFN.

“I looked at the photos (from the meeting) and the names. I could recognise about two people who are our members, but they speak for themselves.”

He said all Pentecostal leaders in Nigeria, from the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Living Faith, Mountain of Fire House on the Rock, among others speak with one voice.

“Finally, I wish to let you know that there is nothing in PFN that is regional based like Southern or Northern Pentecostal Bishops.

“As a matter of fact, the PFN does not have any settings for Bishops. What we have is PFN, we do not separate Bishops of Pentecostal from other clergies of Pentecostal.

“PFN is just one body under which all Bishops, Pastors and members are lined up behind Bishop Francis Wale, the President.

“We stand by our decision, we have not and will not bend to the dictate of any political group.

“It doesn’t matter what politicians will want to do, the truth and the joy is that the PFN is not divided on its position.

“Individuals can form an association but when it comes to the body called PFN, there is no change in our position and we have not authorised anybody to hold a meeting.”
