Ahead 2019 general elections holding in the country, a group, Southern Youth Leaders Forum (SYLF) endorsed President Muhammadu Buhari for a second term in office, saying it took its decision based on the giant strides the administration under him had recorded in areas of economy, security and Anti-corruption war, since assuming of office three years ago.

The group also passed a vote of confidence on the Chief of Army Staff (CAS), General Tukur Buratai, while recommending him and other service chiefs for a special national honour award.

SYLF communicated these decisions on Wednesday in a communique issued at the end of a Summit it organised in Lagos and attended by representatives from across the zone.

The communique was signed by Comrade Odeyemi Oladimeji on behalf of National Committee of Yoruba Youth; Engr. Fidelis Nze (Igbo Youth Assembly) and Comrade Nathaniel Ekutu (South-South).

SYLF, while condemning “attempts by some politicians and people of vested interest, towards pushing the country, dangerously to the edge of the slope,” described such attempt as mere “antics of creating scares among our people, just for the purpose of ambitions tied towards the 2019 General elections.”

Speaking further, the youth group commended what it described as the sustained effort of the Federal  Government and stakeholders in the anti-corruption war, as well as the cooperation now being received from the judiciary, towards ensuring a speedy dispensation of corruption-related trials, as being recently witnessed in the country.

The summit commended the Federal Government, the Service Chiefs and officers of the Nigerian Armed Forces, for the restoration of peace in the North-East, the Middle-Belt and other troubled parts of the country, particularly on the peaceful Sallah celebrations witnessed across the nation, including the North-East zone,  where even the Internal Displaced People (IDP) were able to observe the celebrations in their ancestral homes.

The Summit, therefore, urged Nigerians, particularly the youth, not to be deceived by individuals whose main motive was political and desperation for power, come 2019.
