Barely three days to the conduct of the forthcoming Gubernatorial and State House of Assembly elections, the Chairman of the Northern Senators Forum and Coordinator, North West, Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, has organized a special prayer session to ensure the peaceful conduct of the polls.
This is contained in a statement signed by the Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, Bashir Rabe Mani and issued to newsmen in Sokoto.
Senator Wamakko said, ” God gives and takes leadership and we solely rely on Him to succeed. Fervent prayers are potent armours against any ill-will.
” The prayers were offered to seek divine protection and to ensure the conduct of the forthcoming polls, peacefully.
” The prayers are also aimed at ensuring sustainable peace, unity and socioeconomic prosperity in the State and Nigeria, at large .”
Commenting on some obnoxious smear campaigns against the All Progressives Congress ( APC), in Sokoto State on an alleged severed relationship with the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, Senator Wamakko said,” the Sultan is apolitical and he is a Father to all.
” We have an excellent and perfect relationship with the Sultan, as well as the Sultanate Council of Sokoto. He is a highly revered leader, whom we all cherish and respect.
” The APC will also continue to uphold the dignity and exalted status of the traditional rulers .”
The statement said that the prayer session which was successfully conducted at the Gawon Nama, Sokoto, the residence of Senator Wamakko was jointly presided by the Sarkin Malaman Sokoto, Sheikh Buhari Sirridawa and Sheikh Bashir Gidan Kanawa.
The all-important prayer session was attended by the APC Gubernatorial Candidate, Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, his running mate, Alhaji Faruk Malami Yabo, former Deputy Governor, Alhaji Chiso Dattijo Abdullahi, former Nigeria’s Ambassador to Morroco, Ambassador Abubakar Shehu Wurno, Chairman , Gubernatorial campaign council, Alhaji Muhammadu Maigari, Chief Imams and Clerics, among others .
