NO fewer than 20 families have been rendered homeless on Sunday afternoon in Delta.
The fire reportedly emanated from a cooking gas cylinder at Opi Street by fish pond in Ugboroke Community, Uvwie Local Government Area of the State.
The Sunday afternoon inferno razed down houses that would better pass for makeshifts, housing the over 20 families.
In spite of the pandemonium that ensued while the fire raged, Tribune Online gathered that no life was lost.
The reason was attributed to the timely intervention of men of the Delta State Fire Service who prevented the fire from spreading to other buildings.
Tribune Online gathered that the cooking gas cylinder exploded when a girlfriend of one of the tenants in the compound was cooking unknown to her that the gas was leaking.
“Before the girl came out from the house, everywhere was on fire. Her boyfriend asked her to lock up and they ran away. By this time, some of the tenants were still in church,” a witness narrated.

Meanwhile, victims of the inferno have lamented the loss of their belongings on a Sunday afternoon.
Mrs Enohor Obukevwo said, “I don’t know how the fire started. I lost everything to the fire. Only this wrapper you see on my chest is what I came out with. Mr Governor, please help us. Come to our rescue.”
Sixty-eight-year-old Barrack Odjere, another victim, said he just returned from the church and met the fire raging.
“All my property burnt to ashes. I have no place to stay now with my family. I want the government to come and help us because we are homeless.”
Yet another victim, identified as Mama Israel, said in pidgin that, “Everything for house burn finish. The only thing I manage to rescue is this small bible I came back from church with.”
A pregnant woman with a nursing child, Rose Anthony, said she was only able to rescue a wrapper from the inferno, same applied to tearful Julie Moses who said, “I just returned from church to see my property burnt to ashes.
“I did not pick anything. I don’t know what caused the fire. All I want is that the government should help us.”
The victims, all of whom are squalid folks struggling to make a living, appealed to the state governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, who just recently voted in for a second term to come to their assistance as they are practically taking shelter under shades as of the time of filing the report.
