A 14-year-old pupil, Gift Idoko and a yet-to-be-unidentified middle aged man, were separately, late Wednesday, electrocuted at Ekurede Itsekiri Community in Warri South Local Government Area and Ugbokodo community in Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State.
Reports said the man was trying to restore electricity to his area at Ugbokodo, perhaps illegally, when he was electrocuted and fell off the electric pole.
The 14-year-old Idoko, a JSS 3 student of Basic School, Ugbuwangue, Warri, was said to have suffered an electric shock while leaning on a string of iron rods protecting an electrical store at about 7:00p.m when electricity was restored to Ekurede Itsekiri.
Eyewitnesses, according to FreshAngle International, an online tabloid, disclosed that Idoko, who was the second child of her mother, was electrocuted when she attempted to lean on the iron protectors to take a break from washing dishes.
A friend of the mother of the deceased, Mrs. Christiana Mayuku, who rushed down to offer some rescue said on Thursday that she equally suffered the electric shock when she held the rods while trying to rescue Gift.
The teenager, whose father is a police officer serving in Bayelsa State, was promptly evacuated to the Warri Central Hospital where she eventually gave up the ghost and the remains now deposited at the hospital’s morgue.
Meanwhile, the owner of the killer iron rods, identified simply as Mr. Segun, an electrician when contacted on phone said: “I don’t want to comment on the issue for now. Give me your address details and I will reach you later.”
Police public relations officer, DSP Andrew Aniamaka, could not be reached for a reaction as of press time.
