In an unprecedented wave of digital disruption, thirteen African countries are grappling with widespread internet outages, throwing businesses, communication networks, and daily life into disarray.

From the western reaches of the continent to its central tip, millions of individuals find themselves severed from the digital world, facing an uncertain timeline for restoration.

The affected nations include Nigeria, Ivory Coast, South Africa, Liberia, Benin, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Togo, Cameroon, Gabon, Namibia, Niger, and Lesotho.

The causes of these outages follow the reported rupture of multiple major undersea cables.

As a result, in Nigeria, the internet blackout has disrupted financial transactions, online commerce, and vital communication channels.

Here are the impacted countries’ severity levels as reported by Netblocks.

Liberia: High

Benin: High

Ghana: High

Burkina Faso: High

Togo: Medium

Cameroon: Medium

Gabon: Medium

Namibia: Medium

Niger: Medium
